Angus Gold expects Farhaan to shine in Ambant Gala Stakes at Sandown
Hamdan Al Maktoum's racing manager, Angus Gold, has high hopes of Farhaan, who is ready to show his magic in the class 1 Ambant Gala Stakes at Sandown on Friday, July 6th.
John Dunlop’s trainee did not show much promise on his seasonal comeback, when finishing fourth in the Poptelecom.co.uk Fairway Stakes in May. He is going to face eight dangerous competitors in the 1m2f7y event, getting underway at 16:00 GMT. The going is
good for the £18,714 meeting and it will be a huge advantage for the 3-year-old.
Angus Gold opined that Farhaan struggled to find his rhythm because of the slow ground at Newmarket and with a lot better conditions at Sandown, he has better chances of winning.
"Farhaan has only had one run this season because of the soft ground. I thought he ran a very good race at Newmarket first time, that was a good contest and he just appeared to blow up after his long lay-off. I think he'll run well, we just hope the rain
stays away which we've been told it should do," said Gold.
Farhaan’s owner will be represented by another fascinating contestant, Tazahum. The 4-year-old is also going through a bad spell at the moment. Sir Michael Stoute’s charge looked completely out of form on his first outing this season, when ending up sixth
behind Questioning in the Group 3 Weatherbys Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket.
The son of Redoute´s Choice, however, has a decent record at this track. He sealed two consecutive triumphs here at the start of last season. After banging the opposition in the Bet365.com Esher Cup (Handicap), he carried forward his fine work to bag the
winning prize by a nose in the Charles Heidsieck Champagne Heron Stakes in last May.
Tazahum has run only one race this season due to some problem with his feet. Gold was disappointed over the 4-year-old’s below par effort at Newmarket, but hoped for a positive outcome this time.
“He made his comeback in the Earl of Sefton where he was a little disappointing. We've given him time so that his feet have fully recovered and this is something of a retrieval mission," Gold described.
