Anibal Sanchez allows home runs as Detroit Tigers outclassed by Los Angeles Angels 2-3-MLB Update
Starter Anibal Sanchez gives up three runs as the Detroit Tigers are beaten 2-3 by the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California during the last game of the three match series on September 9, 2012.
Sanchez costs the team a defeat by allowing the opposition an early lead in the game. By the time he leaked three runs in a span of two innings, the Tigers were scoreless.
Despite the fact there was a great number of innings left from there onward, blowing the lead against the quality pitchers of the Angels was not easy.
Tigers tried to surpass the Angels but at the end of the day they were one run short. By adding one run in the fourth and the seventh, they gave an impression that they can win the game.
However their momentum was put to a halt by the impeccable last two innings thrown by the Angels’ relievers.
The two runs that the Tigers scored in the game came off a home-run and a double. Their left fielder Andy Dirks slammed a home-run. He was 1-for-4 on Sunday.
As far as the second run was concerned, their right fielder Brennan Boesch doubled to left and sent the base-runner aboard.
Sanchez will be disappointed for allowing two home-runs to the Angels on Sunday. By and large his outing on the mound was not entirely bad. With a better run support from the offence he may have recorded the victory. The fact he completed seven innings and
struck-out six shows that he was not far from his best.
Detroit’s manager Jim Leyland acknowledges the improvements that Sanchez showed in the match. He is of the view that compared to his previous outings he was much better in the game.
"I thought that was the best Sanchez has been," Jim Leyland said. "He threw the ball better today than I've seen since he's been here. He's getting better each time out."
As it was the last match of the series, Detroit will be trying to shun the negatives and take positives out of it and make sure they put up improved shows next time.
