Anibal Sanchez helps Detroit Tigers dominate Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 – MLB Update
Anibal Sanchez put up another masterful performance as Detroit Tigers edged the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, August 22 in second game of their three match series.
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be very pleased with Tigers’ performance in a game that was extremely important to them. With this win, the Tigers managed to safeguard their second place on the American League East Division standings.
Starter Sanchez pitched six plus solid innings to grab his second win of the season. Overall, he gave up just five hits and two runs with six strike-outs to make quick work of the Blue Jays’ batting line-up.
"I just feel great when I can control my pitches," Sanchez said. "Today I feel more relaxed, I feel more comfortable on the mound and that's what the result was today."
"His stuff was really electric, probably as crisp as it's been since we got him," Detroit catcher Alex Avila said. "He looked great, using all his pitches."
"I thought Aaron threw the ball really well," Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said of starter Aaron Laffey. "We had an error in one inning and missed a bang-bang play at the plate, and that puts you on the short end of a 3-2 scoreline."
Right now, Leyland and company are just two games behind the AL Central leaders Chicago White Sox. However, things can change pretty quickly for the 2011 Central Division champions. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can deliver a similar result
in the finale to secure a deserving series sweep.
Omar Infante provided the Tigers with an excellent start as he scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to break the deadlock. Right fielder Jeff Baker help the Tigers build on the lead as he singled to right in the fifth inning.
Slugger Prince Fielder, once again, played key role in deciding the outcome of the game as he earned an RBI single to left in the sixth to help Tigers restore their two run lead. Blue jays fought back well in closing stages of the game but could not cross
the winning line.
