Anibal Sanchez helps Florida Marlins defeat San Francisco Giants 1-0 – MLB Update
The Florida Marlins’ Anibal Sanchez had an outstanding day with the ball in the club’s 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants, at AT&T Park on Thursday night, May 26 to clinch a series sweep.
Sanchez threw nine innings, allowed just five no-score hits, walked two while took eight strike-outs to earn his fourth win of the season. With this win, the 27-year-old right-hand ball thrower made his fourth-straight success after losing two consecutive-games
in his last six starts.
The game, which took Sanchez to a 4-1 record with 2.60 ERA in ten starts, wrote the Marlins second series sweep in 2011 after they achieved their first sweep with 3-0 against the Pittsburgh Pirates in April.
The Marlins’ manager Edwin Rodriguez was excited after getting the sweep against defending World Series Champions.
Edwin said, "The sweep here against a good team is great. The down side is what happened the other night. Other than that, a good three wins."
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Logan Morrison led a single off the Giants’ starter Ryan Vogelsong to take the Marlins into a 1-0 lead. Before allowing this run, Vogelsong has given five hits in his first five innings but after the hit,
he consumed just three hits and completed his eight innings without yielding any further runs.
The 33-year-old right-hand hurler lost his first game in six starts of the season and now has a 3-1 record with 1.77ERA.
Though the clouds were covering the ground and wind was blowing at 17 mph, Vogelsong felt the condition tough to make perfect pitches. He said, "I think it was tough. I knew it was tough for me. I was just trying to get us going early."
The Giants’ closer Ramon Ramirez threw a perfect inning to give batters a chance to score even a single but the teams batting has gone completely out of the way.
San Francisco’s manager Bruce Bochy said, "We knew it was going to be a challenge to get some runs. Our guy did what we were hoping. We are going to have to start coming through. We can't live on the edge here every night."
The Giants were under psychological pressure because of the intimation of the sweep they were watching, said some experts. First baseman Aubrey Huff, who has 23 RBIs in this season, also remained hitless in his four at-bats.
