Anibal Sanchez looking to grab a six year $90 million deal – MLB Update
Former Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez is the hottest property in Major League Baseball these days. In addition to being reliable and durable, the right hander has the ability to up his game play in pressure situation.
According to FoxSports.com, Sanchez is currently seeking a contract in the range of $90 million. After posting impressive number with the Tigers last year, the free agent has increased his market value considerably.
Sanchez produced magical performances in the playoffs, going 1-2 with a staggering 1.77 ERA in three games. Overall, he finished the season with a decent 9-13 record with 3.86 ERA.
C.J. Wilson grabbed a $77.5 million contract when he hit the open market last offseason as the best pitcher available. It will be interesting to see if Sanchez can also secure a similar deal in the upcoming weeks.
A lot of teams have expressed their desire to sign on the right hander since the end of 2012 season. Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski has indicated on several occasions that he will love to bring back Sanchez for the next season. However, it is unclear
if the Tigers can meet Sanchez’s $90 million price tag.
"Do I think it helps that we had Sanchez (this year)? My answer would be yes," general manager Dave Dombrowski said at the annual state of the Tigers address. "But I'm also practical enough to know that in other ways, no, because when you get to this point,
probably offers being equal, it helps you.”
"Offers that blow you away, it doesn't really make much difference and really what ends up happening is you've been through this process before, it's the player's right, they can do what they want,” he added.
Other teams showing interest in Sanchez include the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins and the Texas Rangers. Red Sox’s pitching rotation, in particular, had a disastrous last season and it will be exciting to see if they can offer Sanchez
a long term contract to strengthen up their pitching attack.
Considering Sanchez consistent performance all through the 2012 season, it will not be surprise to anyone if he grabs a contract more than expected by the analysts.
