Anibal Sanchez shines as Detroit Tigers shutout Kansas City Royals 2-0 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers emerged victorious in a crucial American League Central encounter as they shut-out the Kansas City Royals 2-0 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, September 25 in opening game of their three match series.
It was a huge win for the Tigers who reclaimed their Number one status on the AL Central standings table on Tuesday evening. Credit should be given to the Tigers for showing great determination and fighting spirit under immense pressure.
It will be interesting to see if Jim Leyland and his men can win their remaining games to claim their second straight AL Central title.
Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez produced another powerful performance as he gave up just three hits in nine shut-out innings to claim his fourth win of the season.
His extraordinary effort also lowered his ERA to 3.95. Surely, he will be looking to continue his good work to help the Tigers make it to the World Series finals.
"He threw it good. It had a little movement on it, too," Fielder said of starter Anibal Sanchez. "Perfect throw. I just wasn't ready for it."
"We control our own destiny. We've just got to continue to play good baseball," catcher Gerald Laird said. "We don't have to rely on anybody to beat anybody now. It's all on our shoulders."
"Sanchez did a real good job," said Royals’ starting pitcher Bruce Chen, who gave up eleven hits and two runs in six plus innings. "One of those games where you just have to tip your hat."
First baseman Prince Fielder provided the Tigers with an excellent start as he singled to shallow right centre in the first inning. Delmon Young has looked in terrific form over the last couple of months. He earned an RBI single to right in the first inning
to double Tigers’ lead 2-0.
Royals will be disgusted with the fact they were unable to put any runs on the board. It will be interesting to see if Ned Yost and his men can regroup and fight back in Game 2 to keep the series alive.
The Tigers will be happy with their overall performance as they managed to keep the Royals scoreless and take a decent victory.
