Anibal Sanchez shines as Florida Marlins defeat New York Mets 6-5 – MLB Update
Anibal Sanchez pitched five innings and gave up three hits with four strike-outs as the Florida Marlins defeated New York Mets 6-5 at Roger Dean Stadium, Florida on March 25.
Sanchez is considered to be the best pitcher for the Marlins during this spring season because he mostly pitched scoreless innings. He could start the regular season as the Marlins’ fourth starting pitcher.
Anibal had 3-0 wins with an ERA of 1.89 in five Grapefruit League games. He had two walks and pitched 49 hitting throws out of 82. Sanchez directed the Marlins with 32 starts in 195 innings during last year and failed to spot as a starter due to pain in
his right shin after being hit by a hard pitch.
Sanchez estimated his future plans and said, “Now everything is fine. Today I was little bit wild. I just want to go longer in spring training. I missed one start so I'd like to go six innings to be ready for the season.”
Anibal will play one more game as a starting pitcher in Spring Training and will begin his debut regular season against the Washington Nationals on April 5.
Mike Stanton, outfielder for the Florida Marlins, also impressed the team with his exemplary performance. He made two RBIs with both on a double and also had a surrender fly. In his overall career, he has nine RBIs in two games since he played his first
of the Grapefruit League after being left out from most of the spring games due to a right quadriceps injury.
The Marlins’ manager Edwin Rodriguez stated that Chris Coghlan, who has been troubled by a painful pitching shoulder, will begin his next game against the St. Louis Cardinals. It will be an interesting that Coghlan and Logan Morrison will play simultaneously
during the spring season.
Rodriguez further said, “It's not the scenario we were looking for, but that's what we'll get. If it's going to be six games, at least they're on the field. We liked what we saw but I still don't think he is in 100 percent season shape regarding the command
of his pitches.”
The Marlins’ outfielder Coghlan grounded at the centre-field position for the initial time since March 16. He joined as a substitute in the sixth inning.
Ike Davis struck his third homer of the spring season for the Mets. New York’s relief pitcher D.J. Carrasco played as a substitute for Chris Young, who didn't wish to play against the Marlins. He permitted four runs in four innings. Carrasco also made a
pitching error in the third inning against Hanley Ramirez.
