http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Victor-Anichebe-c36018 revealed that he was satisfied with his performance in the ongoing season, despite being on the sidelines for a good part of the season due to an injury.
The Nigerian footballer picked up a groin injury in September while playing for the national side and made his return in January against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. He scored a late winner against the Baggies in the game to help the Toffees eke
out a 1-0 win.
And even though the Everton manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes has been circumspect against over-using the player in order to prevent his injury from rekindling, he has nevertheless left his mark on the club and scored 5 times in total this year.
Anichebe, who nurtured under the Everton Academy, was upbeat despite getting less time on the field, and felt that his impressive brief-spell since his return after Christmas will be good enough to win his manager’s recognition.
He told the club’s official website, “I've been pleased to score a few goals… Further on I'll want to play more games – play from the start and stay injury free. I can't really ask too much more. I think I've done okay this year since I've come back. I expect
more of myself next year.”
Even though Anichebe has mostly played for the Toffees as a wide-attacking player, he revealed that he would like to assume the position of a regular centre forward. However, he indicated that he had played in different positions up-front and is willing
to fill in any slot for the benefit of his team.
With the London Olympics fast approaching, the Nigerian footballer also expressed his excitement over the prospects of representing his country in the showpiece event. The centre forward made his International debut in March 2008 in an Olympic games qualifying
match, and scored a goal in Nigeria’s match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Japan-c2928 in the Beijing Olympics 2008. In total he has made 11 international appearances for the African team.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 at Beijing and the memories of the game were still fresh in Anichebe’s mind. He mentioned that even though his team lost the grand finale against the South Americans, he was privileged to be on the same field as the
Argentine talisman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 and other world class players.
He added, “They had a really, really strong team - (Lionel) Messi, (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030) Aguero, (Javier) Mascherano were there. They won it in the end as they had an unbelievable team. I think that was the best part of it more than anything - just being around all the
different kinds of people.”
