http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737 lauds Gambhir’s captaincy, satisfied with Dhoni’s leadership though – Cricket News Update
Former Indian skipper, Anil Kumble, on Saturday lavished praise on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447’s astute leadership as Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain during the recently concluded fifth edition of the Indian Premier League; however, he expressed
satisfaction over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028’s captaincy even in the longest format of the game.
Speaking to media reporters at a promotional programme in Kolkata, the 41-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karnataka-c801 leg-spinner said that it was nice to see leadership skills in someone other than the incumbent.
"Gambhir has showed his credentials,” said Kumble referring to Gambhir's recent successful stint with IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, which saw KKR clinching their first IPL trophy.
“He has the ability. It's nice to have somebody else in the team who has showed his ability, led from the front and batted well. It augurs well for Indian cricket,” the leg-spin veteran added further.
Gautam Gambhir, who moved to KKR last year after playing for his hometown franchise Delhi Daredevils in the first three editions of the lucrative league, took the Knight Riders to the playoffs in his first season as skipper before
leading them to their maiden title this year. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221.
His astute leadership prompted pundits and former Indian players to start backing him as the best option to replace Mahendra Singh Dhoni as India's Test captain. However, Kumble does not agree with the idea, insisting that Test captaincy
is totally different from the shortest format of the game and said that the Ranchi boy has done well as a Test skipper, except for the back-to-back away Test series whitewashes at the hands of England and Australia.
“Test captaincy is different from T20,” insisted the former Indian skipper adding that, “Apart from the eight Tests, Dhoni has done well in the past. I consider this as a leadership group, which is a core group in the team.”
Dhoni, the 30-year-old Ranchi wicketkeeper batsman, has so far led http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
However, one must not forget that it was under Dhoni’s inexperienced captaincy that the Men in Blue reached the top of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test rankings in 2009, a feat that the side enjoyed for almost two years, before relinquishing the title to
the Poms in August last year.
