Anil Kumble, the former Indian captain and mentor of Royal Challengers Bangalore, is of the opinion that the recently concluded fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the best in the history of the tournament.
The former leg-spinner, who is the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket from India, also congratulated the IPL Commissioner, Rajiv Shukla for organizing such a successful event.
Previous editions of IPL were not big hits among the masses all around the world and quite evidently the event was losing the interest of the fans. The controversy related with ex-IPL Commissioner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lalit-Kumar-Modi-c72144 also damaged the credibility of the tournament
greatly.
However, there were a number of intense finishes in the fifth season and the quality of cricket was of the highest standard. Unlike other seasons, most of the teams remained in the contention to qualify for the play-offs till the very last moment of the
league stage.
The 41-year-old praised the hard-work put in by Shukla and is optimistic that the next season of the cash-rich league is going to be even more popular.
"I wish to congratulate you and your team for a wonderful IPL. I must say that this edition was by far the best one till date and going by your enthusiasm and commitment, I can vouch that the next one is going to be even better," said Kumble.
Kumble, who is now the President of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karnataka-c801 State Cricket Association, believes that fans keenly followed the league in his state and this is because of the efforts of Shukla, who has inserted a new life in the tournament.
“Well done once again and thank you very much for your support. I on behalf of my association wish you the very best," he added.
Kumble’s team, Royal Challengers Bangalore consists of a number of high-profile players but they failed to qualify for the play-offs in the current season.
Most of the former cricketers outside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 feel that IPL is turning out to be a curse for international sport and India’s performance in Test cricket has deteriorated because of franchise cricket as the players have started to prefer the shortest format
of the game. However, Kumble sees things from a different perspective.
