Anil Kumble retires from all formats of cricket
At the age of 40, veteran Anil Kumble has announced retirement from all forms of cricket, including the Indian Premier League. After retiring from international arena he focused on Indian Premier League however, Kumble has now withdrawn from that format too. The leg spinner declared "I wish to withdraw from the players auction for IPL IV scheduled for the 8th and 9th of January 2011 in Bangalore." He continued saying about his retirement "I have enjoyed my stint at the IPL so far and thank all concerned for the support extended.”
Kumble, born in Karnataka, Bangalore, played three seasons for Royal Challengers Bangalore, an IPL league owned by Dr. Vijay Mallya. As the auction approaches its final dates, Anil Kumble has announced his retirement. First season for the team in IPL was chaos as they won only four matches and lost 10 in 2008. Anil Kumble was promoted as a captain for the season 2009 after Kevin Pietersen left the captaincy to serve his national team England. Under the new captaincy of Anil Kumble, the team did well to reach the finals; however they lost to Deccan Chargers by six runs. The season of 2010 was mixed episode for the team as the team lost the first match and win next four. Team lead by Kumble won eight matches out of sixteen games, and came third in the tournament after beating Deccan Chargers. Anil Kumble was declared Man of the match as he took four wickets in four overs for 16 runs.
