Question:

Animal Friendly Fashion?

Last night there was a challenge on Project Runway using only "green" fabrics and the guest judge was Natalie Portman. She said she only buys shoes from Stella McCartney and Target. Here is an article about it in ELLE magazine: http://www.elle.com/fashionreport/12667/natalie-portman-for-t-casan-shoes.html

Since she had a limited selection, she designed her own vegan shoe line! (Unfortunately, I can't afford them.) Here is the link to her line: http://www.tecasan.com/designerItems.aspx?id=168

I was impressed that someone like Natalie Portman would buy her shoes at Target (like all of us 'normal' folks) to avoid wearing leather! What are some of your favorite veg-friendly brands or stores?

  1. Haha, actually Target. Alot of their clothing, atleast in the ladies department, is from organic fabric.

    Natalie rocks!

  2. Edun

    Covet

    earth

    matt & nat

  3. Pretty much all of my clothes are cotton regardless of where I buy them, so I guess I don't really have a favorite store.

I would like to counterpoint, however, that if Natalie Portman thinks buying vegan footwear is so important, why isn't her line priced at a point affordable to the masses?  It would appear to me that she wishes to been seen as green, sensitive, caring, and all that jazz, but is still too petty to put her name on an product line that might "cheapen" her image by actually being available at a store like Target.

This is a perfect example of the connection often made between being veg and affluent.  When you are poor, you can't afford to even care about such things.

  4. My favorite store is called "Texas Thrift," and I buy shoes from mooshoes.com.

Re: last night's Project Runway- Wasn't Suede's dress terrific?  I hated that, since he's a twit who refers to himself in the third person!
