Animal Kingdom and Toby’s Corner ridden under tack for the first time in a long time
Trainer Graham Motion took out his star runner Animal Kingdom, and the tack went back on the Kentucky Derby winner, as he was getting close to resume training at Fair Hill.
On 11 October, Animal Kingdom and the Wood Memorial winner Toby’s Corner where under tack and both ridden at the Fair Hill Training Centre in Maryland.
Both colts have returned to training late this summer, and it was the first time Animal Kingdom and Toby’s Corner had a rider on their back and it was the first time they were ridden in the shed.
The training will resume and will not shift gears for some time, probably two to three weeks and they will do some jogging in the time being, trainer Graham Motion will take them out on the track after three weeks to gallop.
Before the training began, both these horses were on an Aquatread machine which is a treadmill that is used in water, and the two colts have been working on it for a month now.
Animal Kingdom picked up a slab fracture on his cannon bone in the Belmont Stakes, when a single stumble led to a chain reaction and disrupted the break from the gate, and Animal Kingdom wound up with a fracture in his cannon bone, and ever since he has been recovering.
Animal Kingdom after winning the Kentucky Derby finished second in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes and sixth in Belmont Stakes where he incurred the injury.
The son of Leroidesanimaux underwent surgery to repair the slab fracture on his hind leg on 30 June, 2011.
On the other hand, the son of Bellamy Road, Toby’s Corner has been sidelined since he rallied powerfully to defeat the 2010 2-year-old champion Uncle Mo and Arthur’s Tale to win the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on 9 April, 2011.
The two colts will continue training this winter, and Graham Motion plans to keep them under his watchful eye at Far Hill, and maybe in December they will go down to Palm Meadows to continue training this winter.
