Im moving out of town to find a good job, but i cant take my two kittens with me until i find a house first. I believe this will take me a week or two to find a job a house and buy all the house supplies and furniture. I plan on leaving the cats but i dont know anyone who will take care of my cats. I have found a cat sitter but they charge 12 dollars a day per kitten plus the food and in 2 weeks that is about 380 - 400 dollars. Will the animal shelter take care of my cats for alot cheaper or free. I seriously cant bring the cats with me yet so my only option is to find a sitter. What is the animal shelter policy on this? If there isnt anyother solution then i will be forced to pay the 400 dollars but thanks for any advice.

  1. Call your vet, they are a great resource for these kinds of problems.  You can also call a local shelter - they have foster families that may be willing to lend a helping hand for a little extra cash.  Good luck.

  2. I work as a pet sitter, and my company has a few different options you could try. A regular pet sitter will come to your house and take care of your pets, which is a different price than in-home boarding, meaning your cats stay in the caregivers home. Maybe something like that would be cheaper. Either way, you definitely don't want to go the animal shelter route. Pay the money and rest easy with the peace of mind knowing your precious babies are in good hands.

  3. i don't think you'll find free care unless you have a friend or relative care to for them.

You can ask an animal shelter but they will charge you a fee and I bet it has to be prepaid. See if you can't work something out. It never hurts to ask the worst thing they can say is NO.

  4. a cattery or vets would be cheaper-or try advertising locally for someone to take them for the two weeks

  5. I don't think animal shelters do that kind of thing 'cause they have enough on their hands taking care of critters that don't have homes. Call your vet and ask what they'd charge. Both kittens can be in the same cage and you can take their toys, blankets, etc. Maybe they'll give you a discount, or let you make payments if you beg and plead LOL If you lived in Clay City, IL - I'd do it for absolutely  nothing. Good luck =^..^=

  6. Most shelters are full of unwanted pets so they probably don't have room for boarders. Try some vet clinics around town. Most offer boarding or at least can point you towards one.

  7. I would call around to vetranarians that board animals. The animal shelter is not a place to board them. The shelter is for homeless pets and there are so many of them, they are over crouded and many don't find homes and are uthanized. Not a pretty place unfortunatly. If you can't find a vet, then ask a friend. You may end up paying, but those are your cats and your responsibility, you took them in and need to dowhat you have to. If you can't afford them, then try to find a good home for them. DO NOT take them to the shelter. I am telling you, their future will be very short lived ther.

  8. OK, first up. Animal Shelters are for animals who are stray or lost or whose owners have abused them. The generally run on a wing and a prayer and can not afford to take on animals for free, cos the owner has a short-term problem. If they were kind enough to this for you, you would be expected to make a fairly hefty donation anyway.

A cat sitter charges money, yes, but will often give a discount for two. It is the normal cost of owning a pet, to be able to make arrangements for their care, it is part of owning an animal

Finally, you say you are moving so that you can find work. Why not find work so that you can move into accommodation straight away. You can find accommodation easily enough on the internet - I managed to buy a house on the internet when I moved to NZ. So surely you can do the same.

You are putting your own needs ahead of your animals and expecting other people to sort out your problems - maybe that is why you are having trouble finding work near where you are ...

I know I sound like an old battleaxe, but the way you have told your story to us does not make you sound like the sort of person who takes responsibility.
