Why do companies test their products on animals?

Not the "Because they're stupid!" answer.

But why they think it is acceptable.

Tanks!

  1. because they provide enough similarity to the final customer to do accurate tests without having to deal with legal issues.

  2. Short answer...

To see what they will do to the body, organs, blood, etc.  And to see if they do what they are supposed to do.  For example, does a sleep med make them fall asleep.

As a side note, there are also human clinical trials done as well with most drugs.  I was one once for a medication.

I wont even get into if it is "right" or "wrong".

  3. Because it is quite acceptable. Humans come first! Animal testing has benefitted us greatly, and anyone who mindlessly wants to end it is a barbaric criminal who would cause millions of human deaths and much human suffering if he had his way. That is Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of PeTA.
