Question:

Animal/conservation related volunteering (UK)?

Hello - was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

I would like to do an extended volunteering placement for an animal/conservation related scheme, but i don't know where to look.

My intention would be to go and live in free accommodation and work there full time for no payment for a couple of month or so... Maybe go as part of a group of people interested in the same thing.

Does anyone know where i could find stuff like this - UK based or abroad is ok, but i don't want to have to pay out any large amounts of money for travelling and accommodation.

Thanks

  1. Hello

Try the RSPB, they have quite a good residential volunteering scheme. You can become involved in many things, working in remote places or on urban reserves. Outdoor work or inside a visitor centre. Getting physical or in a hut showing people views of birds. Lots and lots of opportunities, just check out the RSPB website and click on volunteering. All accommodation is free, you just have to pay for your food and you will probably be working with like minded people who share your passion for conservation. Contact me if you would like to know more..........

  2. Several organisations have volunteer positions, for example BTCV http://www2.btcv.org.uk/ . The one I know from personal experience is organised by the organisation I work for; World Land Trust http://www.worldlandtrust.org/ .

WLT's internship placements last for six months. They are entirely based in the UK, but the conservation projects the interns will be working on are all based abroad, mainly in South America and Asia. If this sounds like your sort of thing, have a look at http://www.worldlandtrust.org/supporting... to learn more.

    Hope that helps!
