  1. Police in the US are authorized to use deadly force when their lives are in danger in line of duty.  Be grateful they didn't simply shoot your dog and have done with it.  That's what cops in my town would have done.  However, I would follow the advice given above and submit a bill to the city, making certain that you had the dog adequately restrained in a fenced area and that the police entered that fenced area. If not, then you probably don't have a case.  If they forced entry when the door was opened (which they just loooove to do, claiming they were invited in by virtue of an opened door) and didn't give anybody time to restrain the dog, you have a case and should be reimbursed.  And I do mean REIMBURSED.  It was your dog and you are responsible to pay the vet for services rendered.  If submitting a bill doesn't work, try small claims court.

  2. if he attacked the officer and you didnt do anything about it then it is your fault..but if the dog didnt do anything and you werent there than they are at fault.

  3. maybe you should add more to the story....you get out of jail? did they take the dog because no one was there to take care of it? is there a law in your city to where you can't leave your dogs outside after dark, was he barking and causing a disruption to your neighbors....if they were siezing the dog for a reason at your fault then yes, you are responsible!

  4. no you are liable for not calling him off, if your dog attacked an officer it would be dead and the fine would be alot more than 500 or 600.

  5. You are liable for the bill. Its your dog and you are legally obligated to control him properly. If you can't or won't do that, you are liable for any consequences.

  6. I am not a lawyer and I don't give legal advise...  So, in the US, if the police had a warrant for your arrest, or probable cause to be in your property, it would be extremely hard to prevail in a lawsuit against the city, however, a sympathetic jury (unlikely since you were arrested or convicted) might side with you.

You might simply send the bill to the city with a letter asking for reimbursement.  They might a) Pay it.  b) Send it to their insurance company for payment. c) Deny it.  Do it!

If denied, complain of animal cruelty and unnecessary force.  You might want to contact animal welfare or rights oranizations.  Then file a suit not only for the vet bill, but for the animal's pain and suffering as well as your own pain and suffering...  Remember, this information is provided solely for entertainment...  It has no legal value whatsoever.....

  7. Attorney consultations are free.  Sounds like you could use one in other areas as well.

It would probably do well to consider mellowing your life out a bit.  Next time it could be bullets instead of tazers and the morgue for you and your dog - instead of the Vet and Jail.
