Question:

Animal job?

I want a career to do with animals but I can't face being a vet because it makes me too sad. Maybe something different, like in another country or something. I'm only 13 so it's not immediate but I want to know what to aim for. I'm quite interested in the behaviorof animals and maybe biology. Or something upclose and with them.

  1. Laura, since I don't know your interests, I can't really be sure of what's for you, but I can lend you some wisdom from my experiences. Firstly, stay away from pet shops (even as a college job), they are retail stores first and foremost and they care about making money first, and care of animals second. Despite their attempts to persuade people otherwise. True there are people there that may really care, but they're often not in charge. Now, about animal biology. There are a multitude of disciplines within the science. There's physiology (study of the body and how it works), ecology (study of animals and their interactions with their habitats and each other) and animal behavior to name a few. I know it can be difficult to decide which to go into. I graduate from college in two weeks and I'm not sure what I want to go into. I really liked ecology, though its very conceptual and heavy on math. I also really liked animal behavior (I did a study on shrimp, kinda cool). Take a broad range of courses while in college (like I did) and don't pigeon-hole yourself onto a narrow path. The best part is that you have plenty of time to decide. If you want to change your mind anytime, you can (at least until grad school). I would recommend doing some volunteer work with anyone you can and find out what suits you best. Good luck

  3. Hi!

But vets help animals =) Ok, i get you.

You could for example, volunteer in a zoo and than learn with the people that work there, what are the possibilities.

Biology doesn't get you near animals, you only study about them.

    Best wishes
