I know this is a long shot but....

I was visiting Modesto yesterday, and spotted a black bird, kind of exotic looking, that was injured. I tried to catch him to give him help but he hid in a bush, and I couldn't wait for too long. I am now hours away, and still worried about him. I called several places, but they wont come to him, they will only take him if he is brought in. What I am asking is if there is anyone kind hearted enough in that area to pick him up and bring him to safety. Again, I know this is a long shot, but I feel so bad for him. His location was in the Olive garden parking lot, near the 99 freeway, across from wal-mart. He was hanging around this vacant building, where there were some plum trees, and some bushes. He was black, slightly smaller than a crow, with a bright beak, and some color in his feathers. If someone is gracious enough to get him you can call, 209-558-7387, and they will take him. Also,If you get him, could you please let me know.Thank you

  1. well are you sure its injured  it could look like it but not it may be a behavior it mat be a tricolored black bird or a red winged black bird

  2. I am too far away to actually help, (Texas), but I really must commend you for taking the time and effort to do this for the birdie.  Call the local animal shelter for recommendations of what else you can do.  Also call your local radio stations and ask them.  Sometimes they like stories about such things, & will actually insert it in  the next newscast ...or at least they may have other suggestions.  Look in the Modesto phone book (blue pages) under "animals,"  for any other agencies you could call, such as wildlife sanctuaries.  You might receive  some suggestions you had not thought of.  Bless you for your kindness, & good luck!!

  3. I am in California..but not close to Modesto.  Are you sure this was not a baby bird that just could not fly yet.  Baby birds do leave their nest BEFORE they can fly, and being breeding season..there are a lot of babies around.  If it is a fledgling, the parents are most likely caring for it and you have nothing to worry about.  Also, this bird sounds like it might be a European Starling from your description.  These are non-native species and are considered a nuisance and negatively affect native birds..so once again if it was this species..not much to worry about if it does not survive.
