There are mice at our vet clinic. I don't protest the use of mouse traps that instantly kill the rodent, but I draw the line at traps that kill them slowly. This morning I came to work and found a mouse. It was stuck to a glue trap. Alive. I couldn't believe it. They actually make and sell traps that operate soley to stick the animal to them and allow it to struggle, suffer, and starve until it FINALLY dies?
I was disgusted. We work at the clinic to BETTER the lives of animals, but here we are, using the most inhumane trap on mice. I brought up the issue to the boss' sister. She laughed at me. Then she told the secretary, "Chuck thinks the glue traps are inhumane!" She replied "Chuck! They're ONLY mice!"
I'm sure they wouldn't leave a stray dog stuck to something like that and wait for it to starve to death or die of exhaustion. What's the difference? They can both feel pain.
Am I *too much* of an animal lover? Is it really absurd of me to think of the suffering of a mouse?
