I have been looking for annual numbers for animals slaughtered for meat in the U.S. but I must not be looking in the right place. I was wondering about the common animals like cattle, hogs, chickens, and turkeys as well as exotic like bison, elk, etc. If you could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it or if you know some with the year that would be great.

  1. This site will give you all of the common animals like cows. pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys, Ducts, etc. the exotic animals you will probably have to look up individually.

  2. Here's the info for cattle - they may also have stats on other animals but I did not check.

  4. You might look at the FAO link (posted below).  You can select various parameters (production quantity, country, year and animal type) for total numbers.  There are other statistical resources available on the FAO site that might be of interest to you, as well.

At one time there were spreadsheet data sets listing the information by country and year going back to 1961.  However, I couldn't seem to find them back. They should still be available, if your interested you may email the FAO people.
