  1. rats have a "right" to a clean and dry environment, free access to food and water, and veterinary medical attention. researchers have an obligation to provide these things; if not, they must scientifically justify why these things need to be witheld.

  2. "The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?""

    Jeremy Bentham

"Life is life - whether in a cat, or dog or man. There is no difference there between a cat or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man's own advantage."

    Sri Aurobindo

"When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy."

    ~Ingrid Newkirk

  3. I think its wrong that animals are tested, especially the poor rats and rabbits that they test makeup on. If only they could make artificial life to test it on.

  4. It depends what you mean by 'rights'. What does exist is a review process that every researcher has to go through in order to experiment on animals. A panel, usually associated with a university or medical school, reviews the researcher's proposal to ensure that the animals are treated humanely (depending on what is meant by that!) and that the research is deemed necessary. If you wanted to change the way these things are done, the best thing to do is try to affect the restrictions these panels impose. Look for information on Institutional Review Boards on Wikipedia
