Question:

Animal shelter question?

I am considering adopting a cat from my local animal shelter. I am 19 years old, and i have time for one. I have to wait about a month before i get one. I visited my animal shelter today, and found some cute ones!

How long do they wait before they put an animal to sleep? (This makes me really sad :( )

Would it be a good idea for me to adopt a cat from the animal shelter?

  1. Ask at your shelter directly - every place waits a different amount of time. Some shelters don't kill animals at all.

Also if you've made up your mind which cat you want to adopt, I'm sure you can talk to the people in the shelter and ask them to hold on to the cat for you until you're able to bring it home.

If they know that the cat is promised for adoption, they won't kill it.

You may also be allowed to take a kitty home on a trial basis for a couple of days to see if you get along.

You're doing a great thing getting a kitty from a shelter.

All my animals are adopted and they're the best I could possibly ask for.

  2. definitely adopt from a shelter, animals are euthanized when the shelters get over crowded

  3. usually animal shelters dont put animals down for a very long time. it really depends on how many animals the facility is able to hold and how many adoptions take place. the biggest thing you really have to worry about is if you've got your heart set on one that is there now, bc it might be adopted before you're able to adopt him for yourself.

  4. Please adopt! It is a wonder thing to do! My proof:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYBz2gjlE...

It depends on the shelter on the time before they put one to sleep. It can be a week, a month, 6 months a year-it really varies!

God bless you for seriously considering adopting! You are a wonderful person!

The kitties and I thank you!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  5. I have always got my cats from a shelter - they take time to settle in.  One cat took two years to come out of my spare bedroom!  They don't put the cats down unless seriously ill.  You could offer a suitable donation to the cat you want to sort of say you have paid for it - my Animal Shelter runs that scheme

  6. YES YES YES YES i dont know how many times i can say yes. and animal sheltrs wait 2 weeks from when they resive the pet to put it down. i say ask the people what cat has the shortest time left and get that one. and another thing is go to your local ASPCA shelter and adopt from there. thats were pets ahve been abandoned and/or abused. they have gone though rehab. and they need a second chance with a new family. so i say go out there and adopt.!!!!

  7. Ask the shelter how long they keep an animal - many shelters will keep an adoptable animal for as long as it takes for it to be adopted; but overcrowded shelters may euthanize the animals earlier.  But each shelter is different and will have different policies regarding an animal's stay.

Please do adopt a shelter cat!  If you have the time and money to take care of a cat, wouldn't it be great to rescue one who needs the help?
