Do animals dream?

My parrots certainly do. Numerous studies have showed that most animals reach REM sleep.... whether that means they have visual stimuli or not is still a mystery.

my  dog does all the time.  she will be asleap and all of a sudden starts to kinda bark, her feet are twitching...it looks like she's dreaming about chasing squirrels...

I'm pretty sure most animals dream like humans. but my dog just lies down on her side with all fours sticking out

Yes, and I think they have nightmares too. My dog used to bark and growl in her sleep. Sometimes she woke herself up.

The more advanced animals like cats, dogs, etc. dream. I've seen my cat twitch in her sleep, which shows she's dreaming. Who knows what they dream about though.

Dreaming can occurs during REM sleep and so it can easily be detected on brain wave monitors.

When humans enter REM sleep, our body becomes paralyzed to prevent us from acting out our dreams. In dogs, for some reason, they do not become as paralyzed as humans and so they will often move about slightly as they dream.
