Animals and Neutering...

I think it's horrible to neuter and spay cats and dogs and other animals. Nobody stops us from producing. People think that cats and dogs and other animals are over populated, but what about Humans? They are way over populated and destroying the earth. I just think it's horrible to stop other animals besides us from having babies. Do you agree?

  1. I totally aggree with you! when I put on a question about breeding my rabbit I got like 6 mean awnsers telling me that i was a bad person because im a breeder. they told me to spay and neuter my breeding rabbits. I dont think that they have a say in what I do with my animals.

  2. I think animals should be spayed/neutered, but then again I think most people should be too so they'll stop polluting the gene pool. I worked doing animal rescue...all the emaciated kittens & puppies thrown out to starve to death...suffocated in bags....drown...run over....because they owner didn't want the responsibility. Heck, some people even kill their own babies for the same reason. I would say its unfair to the animals because it is in the fact that they're having to undergo unnecessary surgery because their owner is an idiot, but think of all the little lives it saves long term that couldn't help they were born.

  3. In someways you are right but you also have to think about it like this. Dogs and cats that produce babies and the owner can't get rid of them end up with the babies being given to the pound and killed there or killed by the owner. You as a human would (I hope) never kill a child of yours because you don't have room for it in the house. Also people sometimes turn animals loose when they have to many and they become wild and can get mean and bite people and give them deseases. Don't you think that it would be easier on a animal to be fix and not have babies than have them and have them taken away. I have 2 dogs and they are both fixed and they don't mined. If you think about some people do get fixed to but that doesn't stop their lives its the same with animals.

  4. but think about it, the only reason they are getting spayed and neutered is to stop them overpopulating and if their quite a temperemental animal, this can usually calm them down.

  5. You said it yourself - "animals can't defend themselves like we can".

I am completely pro-neutering, for lots of different reasons.

    1) All animals have an instinct to reproduce, even humans. But this does not mean they "want" to, in the way we might. Animals do not suffer by not being allowed (or forced!) to breed.

    2) Breeding is very risky - especially for the female. In some species it is actually quite scary. For example, guinea pig sows have a 1 in 5 chance of dying as a result of complications! Female ferrets can die as a result of not being bred when they come into season. But breeding back-to-back is also dangerous and cruel. Neutering is the only safe, humane option. With all species there are so many things that can go wrong, you are literally risking your female animals health and life every time you breed her!

    3) Health problems. Many animals suffer from, or carry, hereditary disorders that they can pass on to their offspring. These animals should NEVER be bred! Have you ever watched a puppy with severe hip dysplasia, unable to run and play because it is in so much pain, then being put down at less than a year old? Have you seen the result of breeding 2 roan guinea pigs? It's a "lethal" - a pathetic, deformed thing. Many are born with no eyes or teeth. Most are blind and deaf. Some can only survive by being handfed a liquid diet.

Allowing any old animal to breed makes these problems worse. The ONLY animals that should ever be bred are those that have tested clear of all known hereditary diseases.

    4) Health benefits of spaying and neutering. These procedures can haev a huge impact on the welfare of the animal, by preventing many diseases. Female rabbits, for example, have an extremely high chance of dying a very early death from uterine cancer - which is completely prevented by spaying. Statistically - neutered animals live longer than entire animals.

    5) Social benefits. Many of our pets are social species that need the company of their own kind. In some cases this can only be achieved by neutering. For example, rabbits again. If you keep a male and a female they will breed indiscriminately - which is bad. But two entire males will fight. So the only real options are to force a male bunny to live alone (which is cruel) or to keep a pair of neutered rabbits.

    6) People don't just "think" animals are overpopulated - we KNOW they are. There are more animals already in the world than there are homes for. This means many end up abandoned to die on the streets, euthanised at the vets, thrown into rivers etc. The lucky ones end up in rescues and get a second chance. But that doesn't garantee a happy ending. Many are destroyed, while other may languish in kennels for years because nobody wants them.

In the UK the RSPCA alone (there are many other rescues) is trying to rehome nearly 200 animals a day!

Every time you breed more animals, you sentence some elsewhere to die.

    6) Finally I don't see why you need to compare humans to animals. Humans make a choice. We can decide whether or not to mate, who with, and whether we want babies as a result.

Animals can't. They mate because instinct tells them to. They don't understand about whether their mate is suitable, or that their babies will be deformed or killed. Would you choose to breed with every male you met, every time you were fertile, from puberty almost to death - pumping out litters year after year and risking your life?

I agree that overpopulation of humans is causing serious problems - but how does that make animal overpopulation any better?

It causes untold amounts of suffering, as well as affecting the environment - think of all the energy needed to power rescues, the land they take up etc.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion but you obviously know very little about this subject.

  6. I think its horrible that over 8 million kittens and pups are euthanized every year in USA alone because of people who allow them to breed.

in Reality there are people calling for HUMAN POPULATION reduction
