Question:

Animals and their habitats?

Hi all, this is a bit of a complicated question but I am working on an essay comparing human behaviour to animal behaviour. Can you name me some animals that create habitats similar to that of humans building homes for their families? I am looking to compare and contrast the way humans build homes, find mates and start families and the way the animals do the same thing. Thanks

  1. Chimpanzees

  2. A couple of ideas come to mind so I scouted out a couple of links for you.

This link from Wiki may help you flesh out your essay with information about habitats.

I think birds would be good to look at. They build a home in a nest - (like humans get 'nesty' when we create our home surroundings)-in a suitable place for their family.

Then I thought of a mole as a contrast. Living underground.

I guess both humans and animals like to feel safe in their habitat.

Maybe you could look at wild dogs/wolves for pack behavior?

How about looking a animals who bury food and store it, like we buy our food in and stock it up so we have something to eat when we are hungry?

This is an interesting subject. Enjoy your essay.

  3. An interesting question. The only species I can think of is the swan. They tend to stick to the same mate, build a nest and raise a family. Having said all that, humans are not so good at sticking with the same partner, lol.

  4. Birds and gorillas build nests. Some of the more complicated nests are built by bowerbirds and orioles. Caddis fly naiads build tubes of sticks or sand grains.

  5. you have to go to scotland to find that out

  6. First point (and very important): Humans ARE animals.

We are also driven by the same needs. Food, shelter and reproduction. All animals deal with these issues. Many will have methods that are similar to that of humans in some ways.

For example: Food. Some ants 'farm' aphids for their sweet exudations. Some ants harvest fungi that they cultivate in their nests.

Shelter: Loads of examples here. Nests, dens.

Reproduction: mating rituals abound in the animal kingdom. It often involves a bout of fighting amongst the males also!

    Have fun with your essay!
