Animals in scientific research?

Under what circumstances should we continue to use animals in scientific research?

when human volunteers run out

When no alternatives are available.

I know this is a controvertial subject but, if my baby had a disease and the only way to cure it was to kill some animals, I would do the honours myself and I make no appologies for that.

There are so many alternatives for a lot of the old animal testing though which is great.

I completely dissagree with testing beauty products because that's just vanity!

I know a lot of people who dissagree with animal testing for medical research but then they are happy to take medication for ilnesses they have.  Also I would ask them, if they were about to die but could be saved by an injection but the medication had been tested on animals, would they sacrafice their lives because of this?

It's cruel and I have cried at the pictures but until there are alternatives (for medicinal testing) then I see no option.
