  1. Because they are no longer tasty enough afterward.

  2. It comes down to a matter of personal convictions versus medical ethics.  I'm of the opinion that no member of Kingdom Animalia is inherently "better or worse" than another.  If there were a way to circumvent animal research and still be able to obtain the same degree of information, I think we'd all espouse it.  The majority of people engaged in research wherein animals are used don't have any interest in harming the animals and generally humane methods are used in such research.  That being said, I'm a huge proponent of finding new methods to at least limit how many animals are employed in medical research (but this is per my personal convictions).  The n***s employed human subjects in their research (which is obviously abhorrent), some feel that employing violent s*x offenders incarcerated for life would be appropriate (most in civilized society feel this constitutes cruel and unusual punishment).  Cell cultures simply don't yield as much information as animal studies.

In short, until something better comes along, the use of animals for medical research is critical if we are to provide novel therapies for the treatment of disease and our understanding of disease.  Inhumane practices in the treatment of animals or unnecessary use of animals is something I have a serious problem with.  But if we have a vested interest in advancing medicine, there's simply not a whole lot of ways to get around non-human animals in research.  It's essentially a necessary "evil," in my humble opinion.

  3. Personally I don't think animals should be used in medical research.  Ethics aside, different animals are different species, and have differnt genetic make ups.  A drug that is very effective in one species could be very toxic to another, and vice versa.  This causes the distribution of tragic drugs like thalidomide, and could prevent a potential cure.  There is so much technology available now that allows scientists to test on human tissues (stem cells) instead of living beings, there is no excuse to test on animals apart from speciesism and an unwillingness to accept new and better methods.

  4. detailed answers for what? You didn't ask a question, just put a question mark on the end of a statement.

Animals should be used for medical research, unless you personally volunteer for it. I'm not going to. Are those animals worth enough to you that you would take their place?
