Animals that are surprisingly related?

Obviosuly certian animals are related, like whales and dolphins, and tigers and lions, and wallabies and kangaroos. Which animals, however, seem different, yet different? For example, birds are related to crocodiles.

  5. The one I find most interesting are the sirenia (manatees, dugongs, sea cows), marine mammals believed to be related to elephants.

  8. What about hyenas and cats? Despite their dog-like appearance, hyenas do not belong to the dog family, Canidae, but to their own family, the Hyaenidae. This family is more closely related to cats than to dogs.

    Hyraxes and elephants are also a good example - both are also related to manatees.

  9. birds aren't related to crocodiles! But another one is girrafe's they have a cousin, the okapi! It sounds fake but it is a real animal!
