Anime Convention help!!!?

I'm trying to get my mom to let me and my friend go to an anime con this year for my birthday... It's in June and the only cons close to me are in Virginia (Anime Mid-Atlantic from June 13-15) and in North Carolina (Animazement from May 23-25). I live in NC and the con that I want to go to is Animazement but its cuts into school time. So my 2nd bet was Anime Mid-atlantic in VI. But since this is my first con I have no clue what is going on and I'm not sure if my parents will let me skip friday! I'm turning 14 this summer (cuz I said it was my birthday, remember?) and I'm not sure if I can go or have a parent with me for the con? Also do you have to stay at the hotel the con says on the website or whatever, or is it ok to find another one near it? I'm not sure which is the best one to go to... Please help!

I only went to one anime con and that was at Animazement last year on one day.  From what I know, you can either buy a pass for all 3 days at a discount, or buy for whatever day you want to go.  If your mom has a problem with you missing school, just go on Saturday and Sunday.  That is plenty of time for you to do everything.  I doubt you need a parent with you but that depends on you and if your parents prefer one to be there.  You don't have to stay at the hotel the con is at, but it would be more convenient since you dont have to worry about rides or parking.  Have fun!  and be sure to bring a camera to take pics of random people cosplaying :-)
