Question:

Anime Dub vs. Sub question?

Which side are you on and why?

If you don't like dubbed animes because of the english voices and acting, do you think that you are right about the "lame" acting, or do you think that you are just use to how the original japanese voices and culture of acting, that when you hear the dubbed and it has more of the "american" acting style culture, that you mistaken it as being bad?

For those who are on the dubbed side, what do you think of people who flame dubs?

  1. well

i'm on the sub side for entertainment value, because japanese sounds so much better than english in a japanese show

but i'm on the dub side too because companies will stop serializing manga/anime in the US if they don't have enough funding

and i usually don't read the japanese version of something

til i see it in the US

    but not all the time

  2. I'm not on any particular side; for the most part I'm on the sub side but that's because the quality of voice actors have changed over the years. But even despite the voice actors, I find myself enjoying subs more-not for any particular reason. I choose based on the "believability" of the characters. Sometimes it depends on what version I watch first. If I saw a certain version first, sometimes I sttick with it, but if I realize that it's bad (which is usually the case with dubs), I switch back. I don't think it is the American acting style; acting is acting-if you don't sound the part, you don't sound the part. I'm not sure if you've watched this anime before, but in the Tenchi Myo OVAs, they switched the voices for Ryoko in the third series. The actor before was superb and her voice and her acting fit the character very well, but the new actor just tried to simulate the old one too much that it ended up sounding awkward and monotonous. It's kind of like watching Jessica Alba in the first Fantastic Four movie-forced emotion and bad acting (no offense to anyone). Subs or dubs, either way, things are going to get lost in translation.

My opinion on about what I think about people who flame dubs? I think they should be more open minded. Some people just don't want to read subs/hear the Japanese/or whatever their reason may be; you can't force someone to like it. Personally I feel you shouldn't force your opinion on someone just because you think that's the way it should be.

  3. ahh, Im on the dubbed side. I dont like the regular ones. I like their english voices better. ahh, people who flame dubs are goin a bit too far i think..

  4. i dont blame anime dub
