Code Geass is a really good one that reminds me of elfen lied a bit.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is my #1 recommendation for similar psychological thriller and gore. It gets better and better. The second season of Higurashi have really improved art.

If i were u id read

Hana Kimi - its romantic and really sweet, about girl who goes to all boys school to follow her idol high jumper Sano. really cute ^^

Sugar Princess- anime is still continueing but its cute, bout girl who impresses a mysterious man while iceskating, than is suddenly paired up with a beautiful male iceskater.

Fuhsigi Yuugi- bout a girl who gets suddenly taken in by a book into a whole new world, where she goes thru many adventures, tradgidies, love, and obstacles :). very exciting, by the way this is also a show, and all the episodes are online, so u can either read it or watch it :P

Tail of the Moon- omg great manga, ud love it :P

those were some mangas i knew, for animes id say.....

Inuyasha, Pretear, Fushigi Yuugi, Ghost Hunt, A ton more you can watch but, these ones id say are my favorites :)

try shugo chara very cute. its romance/action/school sort of.

Also try kyou kara maou its good and kinda funny action/fantacy/adventure
