I am doing a Chemistry lab on anion analysis, here is the question:

Tell how you could distinguish chemically between the following pairs of substances (in seperate test tubes) in one or two steps. Include equations for the reactions occuring and what you would observe:

- NaCl and NaNO3

-KI and Na2SO4

- KNO3 and K3PO4

- BaCO3 and Ba3(PO4)2 solid

  1. for NaCl and NaNO3

    add AgNO3 solution, one will form a white precipiate, thats the NaCl, the one that doesnt form a precipitate is the NaNO3

    Ag+Cl-->AgCl

    for KI and Na2SO4

    add Ba(NO3)2 solution

    One will form a white ppt, thats the Na2SO4, the one that doesnt is the KI

    Na+NO3-->NaNO3

    Cant remember last 2
