Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar in contention at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship
The Indian Anirban Lahiri carded a four-under par 68 and shared the fifth position, heading into the second round of the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship, at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club.
He was among the early starters of the day and made use of the early favourable conditions on the course.
In the overcast conditions, Lahiri started off on the back nine of the course and reached the turn in 33, thanks to the birdies on the 13th, 17th and the 18th hole.
The front nine witnessed him stumble a little, as he conceded two bogeys. However, he managed to offset them by carding three birdies and settled three strokes behind the leader Angelo Que.
Yeh Wei-Tze was the other player who recorded the same score and joined him on the leaderboard.
“It was a good day to play well,” Lahiri explained. “The morning conditions were good and the weather was overcast so it wasn’t very hot. It wasn’t very windy either. Because the sky was a little overcast, the greens were a little bit moist so it was soft”.
“I think it was good playing conditions and it’s great to see guys shooing 6 and 7 under on this course,” he added. “...Yes, this kind of playing conditions definitely suits my game better. Maybe because I played the Pro-Am and hitting balls yesterday, I
feel like my body has opened up today in this kind of weather”.
According to the two-time Asian Tour winner, the conditions were pretty much similar to that in India. Therefore, it was a great advantage for all the Indian players participating in the event.
Gaganjeet Bhullar was the other Indian star who made it to the top five players on the leaderboard. He registered a flawless six-under par 66 and shared the second spot with Jason Knutzon.
Bhullar is currently listed among the hottest players in the field, because of his form on the Asian Tour this season.
He had made a total of six cuts in 2012 and managed to record top-10 finishes in each of them, except in the Zaykabar Myanmar Open Presented by Air Bagan.
Last week, he finished second on the leaderboard, at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters.
He now plans to add another Asian Tour title to his resume, by displaying a consistent performance throughout the week in Taipei.
