Anirban Lahiri eyeing foreign victory at Queen’s Cup – Golf news
Anirban Lahiri has set his sights on recording his first victory outside India, when he tees off this week at the Queen’s Cup, scheduled to be staged at the Santiburi Samui Country Club, Thailand.
The tournament is sanctioned by the Asian Tour, and is played in honour of Her Majesty, Queen Siriki. Also, the tournament is one of four Asian Tour events that will be held in Thailand this season.
The Queen’s Cup is known for attracting big names each year. This year too, the tournament has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, India’s Jyoti Randhawa and the current Asian Tour number one Kiradech Aphibarnrat.
Lahiri, who has a proven track record at home – he has won three events in India – believes that the time is not far away when he will be holding a foreign tournament’s trophy in his hand.
“I know I’m good enough to win and I’ve got the game to win anywhere, whether it’s India, Indonesia, Thailand or Malaysia or even in Europe,” Lahiri said.
Earlier this season, he recorded a victory at the SAIL-SBI Open Presented by Incredible , which he believes is one of the best victories of his career. According to him, the victory in India really boosted his morale, and he remains focuses on his game to
record his second victory of the season this week.
“The more I try to force it, the tougher it’s going to get and I just got to go out there and play my own game. The moment we get onto the golf course, we’re not thinking about factors like whether I’ve won here or there, I’m just trying to hit the best
possible shot and focus on what you need to do,” said Lahiri, who currently holds the 10th spot in the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit.
Aphibarnrat, in the meantime, is looking forward to taking home soil advantage, as the Thai star is already enjoying a great form this season. He won the Maybank Malaysian Open earlier this March, and surged to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
