Anirban Lahiri performing well at the Ballantine's Championship, shoots 71 in the first round
Anirban Lahiri is playing well at the Ballantine's Championship, as he finished tied for the seventh spot in the first round, on April 26, 2012.
The 24-year-old Indian golfer appears to have improved his position at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
Lahiri was playing at the Asian Tour and is now impressing the spectators in the European Tour event. He scored a 1-under 71 and displayed an amazing performance in the first round of the tournament.
Lahiri shot four impressive birdies, one bogey and a double-bogey on the second day. His score was matched by many other professionals and he finished the first round by sharing the seventh position with many others.
He made a quick start by registering a birdie on the very first hole. However, later he faced tough resistance, as heavy winds and the cold affected most of the golf players on the course.
With strong winds blowing on the course, the ball was moving fast. Performing well in such troubling conditions is impressive.
"The conditions were really tough out there. It was cold in the morning and the sky has been overcast for the whole day. It was really tough to control the ball out there. I'm quite happy with the way I've played. I putted well today," Lahiri said.
Adam Scott and Paul Casey are also sharing the 7th leaderboard position with Lahiri, as they have also scored a 1-under 71. Lahiri is currently three strokes behind the leader Victor Dubuisson.
Dubuisson scored a 4-under 68 and competed well for the leading position. He scored eight birdies, whereas two bogeys and one double-bogey on the 4th hole took his scores down to -4.
“I made a 5-meter putt to save bogey at the 10th, my first hole, and a 5-meter putt to save par at my second hole,” Dubuisson said.
"That made all the difference because under the conditions if I had missed the putts twice I could have gone into a negative cycle".
Three rounds are left and there are ample chances for Lahiri, the Bangalore native, to record his debut win at the European Tour event.
He only has to avoid making double bogeys and be at par on most of the holes. This is how he can fulfil his desires to finish among the top-5 leaders.
