Anirban Lahiri remains on top in Aircel Players Championship – Indian Golf Tour
The Aircel Professional Golf Tour of India event titled Players Championship is almost at its conclusion. After the third day wrapped up, it was the overnight joint leader Anirban Lahiri who maintained his magnificent form and now leads after three rounds.
Lahiri is an experienced player and has been playing on the domestic tour for quite a while. He managed to card a round of two-under par, 70 which kept his name on top of the leader board. The player was a little wayward as he was two-over for his front
nine. He managed consecutive birdies in the last three holes to post another under par round.
Lahiri had a total of six birdies and four bogeys. The 23-year-old was looking in fine form with his stroke making on the greens and his putter certainly favoured him throughout the day. He was four-under on his back-nine and had a total three day score
of nine-under par, 207. Anirban sounded confident in his interview and said that he will cope with the final day pressure to secure his first win this season.
Two players are placed behind Lahiri. Veteran Mukesh Kumar and the youngster Rashid Khan are just two shots behind the leader. They have a three day score of eight-under par, 208 and will be playing with Lahiri on the final day tomorrow.
Kumar who started the day placed at the sixth spot improved his position on the score board. He jumped a few places up and trails the leader by just a single stroke. Kumar carded a steady round of four-under par, 68. There were five birdies and a single
bogey marked on his score card. His only drop shot came at the par-3, 4th where his tee shot landed in the greenside bunker. From thereon, he had to be content with a bogey.
As for the 19-year-old Khan, he still has to post his maiden victory playing on the domestic tour. Khan who turned his status to professional a few months back will now be hoping to emerge victorious after the final round tomorrow. He was in the lead after
fourteen holes but had two bogeys in his closing four holes. Rashid finished with a score of three-under par, 69 which included five birdies and two bogeys. This will be a great achievement if he overcomes the pressure of his opponents on the final day.
Harendra Gupta and the overnight joint leader Adilson Da Silva of Brazil share the fourth position after three rounds. They had a three day aggregate score of six-under par, 210 and are three behind the leader.
Asian Tour player, Gaganjeet Bhullar had a steady round of one-under par, 71. He shares the sixth spot and has a total score of four-under par, 212.
The final round of the four day championship will conclude tomorrow. Players who are within the reach of the leader will also be looking to grab the championship trophy and the coming days play is shaping up to be a great round.
