Anirban Lahiri set for another good start at the Omega European Masters
After finishing with an impressive tied 31st position at the British Open last month, Anirban Lahiri of India now hopes to keep the momentum going into this week’s Omega European Masters.
Right from the start of the 2012 Asian Tour season, he has been enjoying a great form, as he recorded four top-10 finishes in just 10 starts that he made. He also won the SAIL-SBI Open, when he defeated Thailand’s Prom Meesawat in the sudden death playoffs.
Last month, he participated in the third major event of the year and posted a three-over par tournament score.
It was considerably a good performance, considering the fact that the tournament was played at one of the toughest courses in the world - the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club.
Since then, he has been reviewed as one of the best players from the Asian world. However, Lahiri himself does not want to fade out after that.
In fact, he wants to add another title to his shelf, which already has two Asian Tour trophies placed on it.
“The British Open was a great confidence week as you get to play amongst the best and it helps to give yourself lots of self-belief. But having said and done that, I think it’s time for me to move on and start focusing and playing well again in the tournaments
to come,” said Lahiri.
He currently ranks sixth in the Asian Tour Order of Merit and knows the importance of the second half of the season, which can help him make a strong charge in the standings.
“It’s always the second half of the year that decides the fate for most of us,” he said. “The guys who are looking at making the cut, the guys hoping to win the Order of Merit or getting into top-five or top-10. It’s a great time of the year to find form
and play well”.
According to the golf commentators, Lahiri has brought several improvements in his ball striking and putting in the past few months. As a result, he has become one of the biggest sensations on the Asian Tour through his classy style of playing.
