Anirban Lahiri triumphs in Aircel Players Championship – Indian Tour News
The Professional Golf Tour of India event of the Aircel Players Championship finally came to a conclusion. It was a rather dramatic victory for the overnight leader, Anirban Lahiri who won the four day championship.
Lahiri started his day by leading the tournament. Certainly, it is the final day pressure, as there are a large number of galleries on the course. Anirban held his nerves and won the championship by carding a superb final of five-under par, 67. He continued
his birdie streak on the final day and never looked out of form.
The 23-year-old Lahiri had a total of eight birdies and three bogeys on his card. He lost strokes on hole numbers 3, 4 and the closing 18th. This was his first win this season. The youngster was excited with the way he played during all four rounds.
His putting favoured him throughout the day, giving him the victory.
Lahiri was playing along Mukesh Kumar and Rashid Khan. There was a little bit of pressure on the youngster playing with the experienced Kumar. Lahiri did not lose his confidence and finished with an aggregate score of fourteen-under par, 274.
Kumar came second on the score board, as he played beautiful golf on the final day by carding a bogey free round. He posted a score of four-under par, 68 but had to occupy the second spot. Kumar had four birdies on his card and a four day aggregate score
of twelve-under par, 276. Unfortunately his score was not good enough to fetch him a victory.
Kumar was followed by his playing partner Khan. The 19-year-old has proved himself on the professional circuit, as he finished at the third spot and carded a round of two-under par on the final day. The teenager had a four day score of ten-under par, 278
and was four behind the winner.
Harendra Gupta came fourth, as he had a final day score of two-under par, 70 and was happy with his game on all four days.
Asian Tour member Gaganjeet Bhullar shared the fifth spot. Bhullar and Adilson Da Silva had the same score of seven-under par, 281 after the four rounds completed. Lahiri picked up the winner’s trophy along with the cheque.
