Anita Husaric downs Ushna Suhail to reach round two – Djibouti ITF 2012
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Anita Husaric stomped over the Pakistani challenger, Ushna Suhail, with a breadstick at the Djibouti ITF 2012 on Monday. She jolted down a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the Pakistani to power into the second round at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Djibouti.
The 18-year-old showed brilliant skills at this outdoor hard court tournament. She barely sweated to register a straight set victory and progressed into the round of 16.
The Bosnia and Herzegovinian stormed into the Centre de Tennis de Gabode 4. She drew the first blood in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead. After Suhail held her serve in the fourth game, the Bosnian starlet continued hitting angled shots and eventually pulled out the opener with a breadstick. She was never threatened with any barrier and cashed both break chances to inch towards glory.
The Bosnian teenager kept momentum rolling in the following set. She got the critical break in the opening game and jumped to a 2-0 lead. Regardless of losing her edge afterwards and levelling the scores at 2-2, Husaric maintained her intensity and ultimately clinched the set with a 6-2 score line. She brushed off two out of three breakpoints she encountered and converted three out of five break opportunities to her advantage.
Next challenge for Husaric is the sixth seed, Stephanie Scimone, who received a first round bye after being a seeded player at this tournament.
The Ukrainian contestant, Diana Bogoliy, will accompany Husaric in the following round. She triumphed over the Russian contestant, Alina Mikheeva, with a breadstick to book a spot in the pre-quarters.
The Ukrainian held her entire serves until the tenth game. She then cashed the lone break opportunity and eventually bagged the opener with a 7-5 success.
Bogoliy maintained consistency in her game in the following set. She quickly reeled off four games in a row before the Russian could come on the score sheet. The Ukrainian youngster pocketed the last two games and eventually clinched the set with a breadstick.
She will next face the top seed, Anna Floris, who also received a first round bye.
