Anja Monke reels off nine birdies in second round at Lacoste Ladies Open
German Anja Monke proved in the second round of Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012 that she is able to dent the confidence of even the best LET (Ladies European Tour) contenders as she fired
a massive 63 to share the third position with Carlota Ciganda and French Anne-Lise Caudal.
Monke was impressive in every aspect of her game as she not only impressed the fans with her solid putting on almost every hole, but she also made it difficult for her rivals to keep pace
with her as she reeled off nine birdies.
Starting the second round on Friday with plenty of enthusiasm, the German star shot two back-to-back birdies on the first two holes—something she desperately needed to set the ball rolling.
After making a fiery start, Monke’s driver made a few mistakes, but inflicted a massive pressure on her nearest rivals. She bogeyed the difficult par-3 third hole as she could not judge the
ball well, making a shot that sent the ball rolling past the hole without even touching the cup.
It seemed as if the German golfer found the third hole the hardest as she bogeyed it in the first round as well. However, she was confident enough to keep things running as she launched another
two consecutive birdies on the 4th and 5th hole.
On the 7th hole, she impressed her fans once again as she made an easy birdie-putt, cementing her position on the leaderboard.
On the back nine, Monke remained as resolute as she was at the start of the round. She carded three birdies and one bogey, which proved a blow to some of her rivals who grabbed good positions
in the first round.
Observers said that Monke is able to keep her momentum going in the next two rounds.
Speaking to the media about her performance, she said she is satisfied with her performance in the first two rounds. “I haven’t really looked at the score board. My target was to play well
and make it into the weekend and I think I achieved that. We’ll see for tomorrow on how it goes,” said Monke who did well despite a four-month pregnancy.
