Anja Monke to defend the Lalla Meryem Golf Cup at the Soleil Golf Club tomorrow
The defending champion of the Mohammedia Lalla Meryem Golf Cup, Anja Monke of Germany, is all set to make a comeback at the 17th edition of the Ladies European Tour (LET) event to be held on the links course at the Golf du Soleil in Agadir in
Morocco.
33-year-old Monke has been victorious three times at LET, including Open de France and Dubai Ladies Masters Cup in 2008 and Lalla Meryem Cup in 2010. The maiden victory at the Lalla Meryem Cup earned her ninth spot at LET in 2010. However, this year is expected
to be the most memorable year of her entire career as she has been inducted into the European team for the first team to compete in the Solheim Cup.

The German golfer who turned professional in 2003 was able to snatch victory at the Lalla Meryem Cup the last year in the presence of mammoth golfing names. The field included three of the top 10 golfers at the Rolex World Golf Rankings for Women in 2010. However,
she is expected to face stiff resistance in defending her title this year as some serious contenders from around the world have flocked in Morocco for the title.
Virginia Lagoutte Clement of France who finished third at the Lalla Meryem Cup the last year, the winner of New Zealand Women’s Open a month ago Kristie Smith of Australia, her compatriot Karen Lunn and Trish Johnson Veronica Zorzi of Italy are among a few
players in the star-studded playing field at the Lalla Meryem Cup this year.

Virginie Lagoutte-Clement is expecting to yield the best possible result. "Of course, when you come to a tournament is always to do his best. Now is the beginning of the season, I worked a lot. The fact that I meet players against whom I played last year promises
a good game and is a stimulant to give the best of oneself," she said in a statement on Tuesday, a day that was devoted to training before competition.

"Changing the course has its advantage, since we all leave on the same footing, as none knows these links, which are quite difficult. I also find that it allows us to explore several regions of Morocco," added the French player.

Recently turned professional 22-year-old Moroccan Maha Haddioui will also take part in the event.  The winner’s purse of the prestigious Golf event has been increased to 325,000 Euros. The event will be held at the Soleil Golf Course from March 31st
to April 3rd.
