Ankara ready to host the FIVB Volleyball Girls' Youth World Championship
The FIVB Volleyball Girls' Youth World Championship Turkey is about to commence shortly in Ankara. The tournament will feature girls teams under the age of 19 from various countries around the world. The event will start today, August 13 until the 21st.
The tournament is considered to be one of the best in the world in the Under-19 age bracket. It offers young athletes a good opportunity to meet their match and play at a higher level. In this way, the athletes are able to challenge their skills and improve
themselves at an early age.
The championships are held every two years. The last time, Nakhonratchasima, the city of Thailand played host to the event. The championship title was taken by Brazil that time around as it was able to defeat the Serbian side. It was not the first time that
the Brazilians had won the title; they had been the champions before the 2007 event, in which the Chinese had bagged the championship win.
The Youth Championships this year are going to be welcoming 16 teams. As of May 2010, Brazil is placed as the top team in the FIVB Junior and Youth World ranking with the U.S. squad taking the second position. Peru and Japan find themselves in the third
and the fourth spots respectively while Turkey, the host team is ranked fifth.
The initial stage of the tournament is divided into four Pools. Pool A will feature a relative easy group consisting of Egypt, Algeria, Poland as well as the host team. All the matches of Pool A will be played at the Baskent Volleyball Hall.
Pool B has an interesting line up of the Brazilians, Mexicans, Argentineans as well as the Slovakians. These four teams will find themselves playing at the Ankara Arena Sports Hall.
Pool C matches will also be played at the venue of the Pool A teams. The teams that make up this group are America, Serbia, China and Puerto Rico. On the other hand, Pool D consists of Japan, Germany, Thailand and Italy. Pool D will also find itself competing
at the Ankara Arena Sports Hall.
