Ankle injury: Jacksonville Jaguars hopeful for WR Justin Blackmon vs Minnesota Vikings – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars said they will examine wide receiver Justin Blackmon’s ankle injury just before the weekend game to confirm his status against the Minnesota Vikings in the season opener this Sunday but apparently are hopeful about his ability to
be hundred percent by then.
Justin injured his ankle during practice on Wednesday but it is thought be not a serious problem, and less likely affecting his chances for the weekend game, which is crucial for both teams.
Coach Mike Mularkey hopes the player should be all right for the game and expects him to give a tough time to Vikings’ defence.
Irrespective of some off-field troubles just before the start of his pro career, Justin’s preseason performance has reflected his potential to become a top-notch receiver. Any injury scare at the moment will prove fatal to Jaguars’ hopes of wins this season.
In four preseason games, Justin’s record consists of 10 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown. The team and game punters were impressed with his game level and expect him to further improve in the regular season.
He is even more crucial to success of the second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert. This is the reason that Blackmon’s fitness and availability throughout remain crucial to the team’s performance.
It is pertinent to mention that the Jaguars are on the course of fresh beginning this season, under the reign of new owner Shahid Khan and new coach, and achievement of any milestone depends on the individual performance of each player as much as it does
on the team effort.
A number of bright spots such as Blackmon have emerged on the surface in the preseason phase, and with a little more focus on their fitness and training need the team can exploit potential of one or two players to trigger a successful run.
The recent unconditional return of running back Maurice Jones-Drew is another timely positive development for the team and now the RB, Blackmon and Gabbert appear to form a formidable attack of the team. Their ability to achieve and sustain higher level
of fitness and form for the entire season will be essential for better results this year.
