Ankle injury: Mike Tomlin hopes Pittsburgh Steelers CB Ike Taylor back in two weeks – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers have continuously been struck hard by ever increasing number of injuries as the regular season nears its end, and most alarming is that some of their most durable and consistently available players have started cracking under burden
of these scares.
Cornerback Ike Taylor is a player that the team have safely relied upon in all weathers and conditions but unfortunately his 135-game playing streak will end when he misses San Diego Chargers game this Sunday because of a fractured ankle.
Coach Mike Tomlin explains the situation:
"You can say a lot of things about Ike, and a lot of positive things, but probably the thing that sticks out the most is his durability and availability. This guy hasn't missed practices, let alone football games, since I've been here."
The player is set to be out of action for two straight weeks but even then his comeback is not guaranteed. In case he sits out another couple of games, the season will certainly be over for him, and then it will depend on the Steelers. If they are able to
through to the playoffs he can come and join the team and if they don’t, the current season will be over for him.
Although the coach has expressed his sentiments for Ike, he has not thrown much light on the possible recovery and return to action of the player. The only information about his ousting is that he at present is estimated to spend two weeks on recovery and
rehab.
Taylor is one of the rare players in the league who have been healthy and fit in all seasons. His fitness and form has played a crucial role in Steelers’ wins in the past. Unfortunately, his ousting has happened at a time when the Steelers need him most
than ever before.
A surprise win over the Baltimore Ravens on past Sunday (Dec. 02) has opened up playoff chance for the team. They with 7-5 standing in American Football Conference (AFC) North are in a must-win situation, starting right from their game versus the Chargers
this weekend.
