My left ankle is always sore after I run, should I wrap it before I run to stabilize it better, or should I buy a gel insert for my shoes to help with the impact?

  1. Get some shoes tha sopport your ankles.

  2. You need to put more details, is it above your ankle, your achilles or your ankle?  If it's above your ankle or the achilles then you have tendinitis or swelling of the tendon.  You should take anti-inflammatories (ibprofren), ice it (4-6 times per day for 5-15 minutes) and rest it for a few days.

That happens when you start running because you increase your mileage too fast.  So when you start over, start slower than you did this time.

Gel inserts probably won't help, but new shoes might.  Don't spend 135 dollars on them, but getting shoe advice is good, and looking at where your old shoes are worn is great to pick new ones.

A doctor might not help you very much, physical therapists are better.  Most doctors will tell you just to rest and ice, and probably tell you less than you'll get on yahoo answers.  Physical therapists should give you icing routines/advice, shoe advice, stretches, workouts and the like.

I'd take a couple days off with icing/pills, then gradually build up and if it still hurts after that go to a doctor.

  3. try placing cold ice on it if its swollen if not place a hot patch on it and try moving around your ankle so it doesnt ecome stiff and hurts when you try moving it again. I suggest you take it easy for 2 or 3 days.

  4. What type of shoes do you run in?  Look at the bottom of the shoes, is the inside sole or outside of the sole look worn down?  Try taking some Tylenol or something before you run, why wait until after when your sore to take it.  Insoles will not help your problem if your shoes are already worn out.

Asics makes great running shoes with I.G.S. (Impact Guidance System) Setting your foot down on heal strike in the best possible neutral gait cycle (from heal down to toe off).  They have the Asics GT2130 ($95) Nimbus 10 ($120) Kaynano 14 ($135) and even more expensive shoes.  All of these have the best midsole out on the market right now as far as durability, tear strength, compression bounce back, and the most lightweight.  If you get lucky you can get last years models, (just with older color codes, and graphics) for cheaper...  The GT2130s are the same name for prior years, but the Nimbus would be Nimbus 9, or 8, and kayano would be Kayano 13, or 12...

If your shoes are worn out they could be turning your foot to the inside (pronation) or to the outside (supanation).  Check out those shoes before you do anything...

I have done a lot of research on running shoes, and watch many of the vender videos...

  5. usually gel inserts work better in my experiences.

also try icing your ankle when you get back from running for 20 minutes.

    hope it gets better :]

  6. Well it depends...If it is sore after EVERY run you have there could be something wrong....try getting a bag of ice and iceing it twenty minutes on 6-8 times a day. If the pain hurts to the point where you can't run or there is any swelling you should probably see your doctor.

  7. I would go have it checked by a Dr. to be on the safe side and stay off of it until then.
