Ranked 473rd in the WTA Premier Rankings, Anna Danilina rallied past Caroline Doyle 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in the third round of the Girls’ Singles category at the US Open Championships 2012 held
at the glorious Flushing Meadows Park in New York.
The American junior demonstrated her high-spirited action plan ever since she stepped on the court. She had a very confident serve in the opening set, indicating her fair chance to upset the rival. The Kazakh
contender got dejected and by the end of the sixth game, she was unable to retain her serve, trailing at 2-4. Nonetheless, due to strong resolve to win, she levelled the scores to 5-all but Doyle sprung forward to mark her 7-5 win.
The American professional had a high first serve accuracy of 71 percent and converted 17 of 22 points. However, Danilina had a low serve percentage of 66 and she pocketed 11 of 25 points on it. Unlike her rival,
she made three unforced errors but secured two of the three serve breaks in the opening set.
The momentum fluctuated in the second set as the American was unable to sustain her initial serve, bringing the score line to 2-love. 17-year-old Danilina returned to her form and successfully frittered away
her opponent’s pressure. In the eighth game, she confidently marked her 4-3 lead and as Doyle did not show any resistance, she won the second set with a 6-3 lead.
The 16-year-old American did not show any resistance in the final set and the Kazakh broke her serves twice i.e. in the second and fourth game. Danilina smashed flawless serves and over shadowed the odds with
her high-speed aces, securing a 6-0 win in style.
In the decider, Danilina double faulted five times and had a low first serve precision of 48 percent, fortunately she converted 10 of 11 points. She also converted all the two serve breaks presented to her, unlike
Doyle who secured none and double faulted once. However, she had a relatively high first serve of 79 but she could only clinch six of 15 points.
In the quarter-finals, the right-hander Kazakh participant will again face the local participant, Victoria Duval, who previously battled past Kathinka Von Deichmann, 6-2, 6-2.
