Anna Nordqvist all set for Lorena Ochoa Invitational
Swedish Anna Nordqvist, who came close to winning the last edition of Lorena Ochoa Invitational, can surprise her fans at the upcoming edition of the four-day tournament, scheduled to kick
off from November 8-11, at Guadalajara Country Club.
Nordqvist is one of the most talented LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars, but has been winless since her last victory at the LPGA Tour Championship in November 2009.
The last edition of Lorena Ochoa Invitational brought plenty of good opportunities to her to end her protracted winning drought, but she lost to Scottish Catriona Matthew by four strokes.
Although a blow to her, the Swedish star quickly snapped out of that defeat and started training hard on the practice range.
Nordqvist’s performance at the 2011 Lorena Ochoa Invitational was nothing short of amazing. Despite getting off to a slugging start to her campaign as she shot a 71 in the first round, the
LPGA titan made a comeback in the match with full force as she posted a massive 65 in the second round.
A much better score in the second round helped Nordqvist calm her nerves, with South Korean I.K. Kim tagging along after she fired a 67 in the round.
Matthew, however, overcame the pressure from both her rivals and managed to post an overall 276 to win the title.
Nordqvist had said at the end of the LPGA tournament that despite losing the match to Matthew, she was satisfied with her performance, and would try to keep the momentum going in the coming
tournaments.
“I'm happy, I had a great week. I rolled a lot of good putts today; none of them would really drop on the front nine, got it going on the back nine. I hit a bad tee shoot on the 17 and made
bogey there, got caught in the rough, but hit a good putt to go in for par on the last hole,” said Nordqvist who has won two LPGA title in her professional career so far.
“Overall I'm happy, and things are starting to fall into place. I'm happy”.
The Swedish golfer heaped praise on Matthew for her stunning performance throughout the tournament.
