Anna Nordqvist plays much better in season-ending event
Swedish Anna Nordqvist exhibited a sensible performance at the CME Group Titleholders 2012, as she fired a total score of 281 to seize the share of seventh position along with three other contenders.
The season-ending event became the scene of a nerve-shattering competition in the last round at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, last Sunday, with prominent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders trying to make their opponents bow out.
Nordqvist kept moving ahead with resilience and focus, as she exhibited a fine game that saw her make balanced strokes on most of the holes. She posted a 69 in the opening round and gradually surged up on the leaderboard positions.
Having got off to a much safer start as compared to most of her fellow Europeans, the Swedish star had to deal with stiff competition when she came face-to-face against formidable Asians like Na Yeon Choi and Ai Miyazato of Japan.
The second round of the four-day LPGA battle witnessed Nordqvist fire a 70, but she found herself in a tight spot when other contenders stepped their scoring campaign.
A 69 in the third round was enough to help the LPGA titan regain her composure, and she forged ahead with more confidence.
Miyazato who was in an intense competition with her nearest rivals put herself in a far better position after she posted a 64 in the second round on Friday.
On Saturday, the Japanese star kept the pressure intact on rivals and scored a 71 to further boost her position on the leaderboard.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the third round, Miyazato said that she was thrilled after getting off to a fast start, but was also happy that she maintained her form in all four rounds.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who won the tournament after shooting an overall 274, was also happy with her third-round performance.
“Actually, during the front nine I was very ‑‑ I was a little calm and I think this morning was more windy, but I finished strong and I was keep focusing my game and I really had fun with Britney and Ai and I'm very happy how I finished today,” Choi said.
