Anna Prescott and Jess Eales of Hayling Island lift RS Feva Grand Prix title – Sailing Update
Hayling Island sailing club’s Anna Prescott and Jess Eales showed great determination from the start of the RS Feva Grand Prix regatta held and hosted at the Thorpe Bay Yacht Club.
The pair sailed sensibly in the regatta and clinched the top podium place with 11 points after sailing in five races, including a discard race.
Despite the fact that Prescott and Eales were not able to hit any bullet during their regatta campaign, the pair still managed to make some higher finishes and occupy the leading position of the fleet standings.
The weather conditions on the racing circuit were lower on the opening day as there was absolutely no wind at all and the 34-boat fleet had to wait for some breeze to gather around the race course. The breeze was gusting up to five knots over the race course.
Only one race could be commenced on the first day in which Jenny Smallwood and Jamie Webb of Wraysbury Lake Sailing Club hit the bullet to lead the fleet. However, they failed to keep their lead on the second day because Prescott and Eales snatched the lead
from them.
Some breeze filled in the racing area which was a great help for the participants. The fleet sailed in four races on the second day proceedings. The Hayling Island crew cruised into second position in the second race but after that they tumbled down to fourth
place in Race 3.
Meanwhile, they still were in leading position which was further confirmed by two third finishes on Race 4 and 5. As per rules, the lowest position was discarded which brought them on top with 11 points.
Overall standings at the end of the regatta:
1. 4355 Anna Prescott Jess Eales Hayling Island 3, 2, (4), 3, 3 = 11 Points
